What does the vignette cover?
The Austrian digital vignette (ASFINAG Digitale Vignette) is required on all motorways (A) and expressways (S) for cars and motorcycles up to 3.5 t. It is registered electronically to your licence plate ā nothing to stick on the windscreen.
Some special toll sections (e.g. Brenner, Tauern, Arlberg tunnels) are charged separately and are not covered by the vignette.
Driving without a vignette
Driving on the A/S network without a valid vignette costs an on-the-spot replacement toll of ā¬120 for cars (ā¬65 for motorcycles). If it is not paid, administrative fines can reach several thousand euros. Enforcement is by automatic camera checks.

Yes ā you can pick any start date from today onwards during checkout (except calendar-year vignettes, which have a fixed validity window).
